Website Development

View our Website Portfolio

FSB Associates has full website development capabilities. We have developed over 200 author and book websites since 1996, ranging from small book sites of five pages up to fully databased publisher sites with hundreds of titles and content management systems that enables the client to update it and upload content. We develop sites using Dreamweaver, PHP/MySQL, and WordPress.

WordPress sites enable us to develop author and book sites quickly and inexpensively, but still have a professional looking site that clients can update themselves. WordPress is a free, open source platform which is constantly being improved and expanded.

FSB Associates has developed author websites for Alan Alda, Dave Barry, Bill Bradley, Fauzia Burke, Tom Clancy, Robin Cook, Clive Cussler, Sue Grafton, Jonathan Kellerman, Ted Kerasote, Lois Metzger, Mark Rubinstein, Randy Wayne White, and Robert B. Parker. We have developed individual title sites for Antiquitas Lost, The Kennedy Half Century, The Bigs, and Eragon. FSB has also developed sites for publishers such as Studio Fun, Reader's Digest Trade Publishing and Holiday House. We developed and maintain the Get Caught Reading website pro bono.

Development

At FSB Associates, we know that a successful website incorporates an appealing design, a well-planned and efficient architecture, valuable and relevant content, regular updates, and interactivity. Here's a look at the basics of each of these essential elements:

Design

The visual design of the pages must be appealing, sophisticated, and tasteful. Book-related websites should emphasize the content, not the fleeting web design fad of the moment.

Architecture

The site must be easy to navigate and well organized. You must be able to find what you want quickly and easily.

Content

A website can look great, but if its content is insufficient to capture and maintain a visitor's interest, the purpose is defeated. FSB works with the client to ensure that the site has compelling content, including interactivity, audio and video.

Dynamism

We at FSB Associates keep websites "fresh" by periodically adding new material and features, and by updating information regularly. A dynamic site will draw more repeat visitors and garner good press coverage.

Interactivity

Get the fans involved. Let your visitors participate with blogs, email messages, readers' reviews, vote for the best book, or a contest. We can program interactive maps, timelines, or just fun animation with music. We also link integrate sites with Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites.

Maintenance

Website maintenance is often neglected during the planning of a site. It is easy to underestimate the amount of time necessary for data entry, updates, and other up-keep. Often, too, the need to keep a site dynamic or "fresh" is overlooked. This is why traffic to a site frequently drops off dramatically after its introduction.

FSB Associates can help you here. Our experience has equipped us to handle the challenges of website maintenance. We have studied the factors that make a site worth returning to, and will incorporate these elements into your custom-designed site. We can develop sites that we update or the client updates themselves.

Promotion

We will submit your website for inclusion in the major search engines and feature it on our FSB website, which gets indexed by all the major search engines.
